About the hive

Hello, we're CommunityPlacesHub

A hive works because everyone adds a little. CommunityPlacesHub works the same way: customers rate the places they use, and we gather those ratings into fair, city-by-city lists of cafés, dentists, plumbers and everything in between. Look a place up, see how people rate it, and contact it directly. No ads, no sponsored spots, no paid plans.

How we rank

Star ratings on their own reward places with hardly any reviews: two 5-star ratings would beat hundreds of 4.7s. So each place starts as if it had 10 ratings of 3.5 stars, and its real reviews move it from there. The more people who rate a place, the more their rating counts.

A place with no reviews yet stays at the 3.5-star starting point. Ties go to the place with more reviews. Money never comes into it.

We only publish a list once a city has at least 5 places in it, and a neighbourhood list once it has 3.

Review rules

Reviews only help if they're honest, so each one is checked against these before it goes live.

  1. Been there yourselfWrite about places you've actually used, and about what happened to you.
  2. Stay on topicThe service, the price, the people. Leave out unrelated arguments.
  3. Be kind, even when it went wrongNo threats, insults, harassment or hate.
  4. Keep it privateNo phone numbers, home addresses or full names of staff or other customers.
  5. No reviewing yourselfOwners and staff can't review their own place, or a rival's.
  6. Nothing in returnNo reviews for discounts, gifts or money, and businesses mustn't offer them.

We take down reviews that break these rules, but not reviews that are simply unhappy, and nobody can pay us to remove one.
